More than 10, 000 women in Migori County have started benefitting from the Kuku Ni Pesa, a poultry project that is aimed at alleviating poverty and empowering women in the 40 wards in the county.
More than 100, 000 livestock farmers in Migori County have a reason to smile after Artificial Insemination (AI) programme was launched by the County Government in partnership with the USAID-Kenya.
Migori is one of the six counties expected to benefit from the Feed the Future Initiative, a programme started by the United States’ President Barack Obama for Kenya.
Feed the Future is an initiative that is aimed at reducing poverty and hunger in Kenya. During the Migori launch at Kanyasrega Chief’s Camp in Awendo Sub County, the County Government witnessed the injection of heat-booster hormones to more than 75 cows.
This will make the cows ready for Artificial Insemination which will be conducted by county livestock officers and experts.
The programme, according to County Executive Committee member in Charge of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Iscah Oluoch, is targeting over 38,000 farmers in the county.
The initiative, according to Governor Zachary Okoth Obado, will boost the milk production and therefore, increase the quantity of milk required in Migori.
